The Tampa Bay Buccaneers found an unusual way to make history Sunday, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 16-0 while becoming the first NFL team since 1974 to win a game without completing a single pass.

In a rainy afternoon at Raymond James Stadium, the Buccaneers leaned almost entirely on their running game and defense to secure the division victory. Quarterback Baker Mayfield finished without a completion, as all three of his pass attempts fell incomplete.

Despite the unusual offensive performance, Tampa Bay had no trouble controlling the game.

The Running Game Takes Over

With the weather making passing difficult, the Buccaneers turned to their ground attack. Bucky Irving led the way with a career high 173 rushing yards, giving Atlanta’s defense problems throughout the afternoon.

Tampa Bay piled up nearly 300 rushing yards, consistently moving the chains and keeping the Falcons’ offense off the field. Instead of forcing the passing game, the Buccaneers stuck with what was working and made Atlanta find a way to stop them.

The decision paid off as Tampa Bay controlled the scoreboard and never allowed the Falcons to find an offensive rhythm.

Defense Makes History Possible

While the running game carried the offense, Tampa Bay’s defense delivered an outstanding performance. The Buccaneers intercepted Atlanta quarterback Michael Penix Jr. four times, repeatedly ending promising drives and preventing the Falcons from getting back into the game.

The shutout made the performance even more impressive. Tampa Bay did not need a passing touchdown or even a completed pass to put together a convincing division victory.

The last NFL team to win a game without completing a pass was the Buffalo Bills, who defeated the New York Jets 16-12 on September 29, 1974. That makes Sunday’s performance a remarkable piece of NFL history.

An Unforgettable Buccaneers Victory

In today’s pass-heavy NFL, going an entire game without a completion seems almost impossible. However, Tampa Bay proved that a dominant running game and an aggressive defense can still get the job done.

The Buccaneers will certainly remember this unusual victory, and fans will be talking about it for years.

Tampa Bay did not complete a single pass, but it still completed the most important task: getting the win.
