49ers Quarterback Reaches Another Incredible Milestone
Brock Purdy has officially reached the top of the NFL record books, becoming the league’s all-time leader in career passer rating. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback achieved the milestone during Monday night’s 23-17 victory over the Washington Commanders, adding another accomplishment to one of the most unexpected success stories in football.
Purdy entered the NFL as the final selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, earning the nickname “Mr. Irrelevant.” Four years later, he is now statistically the most efficient passer in league history, putting himself ahead of some of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play the game.
As of October 20, Purdy holds a career passer rating of 105.6, surpassing Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who sits at 102.7. Aaron Rodgers ranks third at 101.8, followed by Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes.
The achievement became official when Purdy reached the required 1,500 career passing attempts to qualify for the record.
Purdy’s Numbers Tell the Story
Through 55 career games, Purdy has completed 1,038 of 1,524 pass attempts for 13,145 yards, 98 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. His 68.1% completion rate demonstrates his consistency, while his touchdown production shows his ability to turn efficient passing into points.
Purdy’s success has been particularly impressive considering where his NFL journey began. Selected with the 262nd and final pick of the 2022 draft, he entered the league with little expectation of becoming a franchise quarterback.
Instead, he took advantage of his opportunity in San Francisco and developed into one of the NFL’s most productive passers.
Working under head coach Kyle Shanahan has also played an important role in his development. The 49ers’ offensive system emphasizes timing, accuracy and getting playmakers into space, allowing Purdy to maximize his strengths.
San Francisco Has Super Bowl Expectations
Purdy’s individual accomplishment comes during an outstanding start to the 2026 season for San Francisco. The 49ers are 6-0 and have emerged as one of the league’s top contenders, with Purdy playing a major role in their success.
He has also entered the early MVP conversation, strengthening his case with efficient performances and consistent scoring production.
Of course, passer rating does not tell the entire story of a quarterback’s ability. It does not fully account for rushing production, sacks or every factor involved in leading an offense.
Nevertheless, holding the highest career passer rating in NFL history is a remarkable achievement.
For a player once known as Mr. Irrelevant, Purdy has become anything but irrelevant. He is now setting records, leading a championship contender and building a case as one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.
