Houston and Oklahoma State will meet Saturday night in one of the biggest Big 12 matchups of the season, with both programs looking to strengthen their conference championship hopes.

No. 20 Houston enters the game at 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play after winning three consecutive games. No. 18 Oklahoma State is 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, riding a four-game winning streak under first-year head coach Eric Morris.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at TDECU Stadium, with the game airing on FOX. The matchup marks the first time since 2015 that Houston has hosted a game featuring two ranked teams.

Drew Mestemaker Leads Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State’s offense has become one of the most dangerous units in the country, led by quarterback Drew Mestemaker.

Mestemaker has thrown for 1,575 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions through five games. He has also recorded at least 300 passing yards in four consecutive contests, giving the Cowboys a consistent passing threat.

Wide receiver Wyatt Young has been another major contributor, averaging 92.4 receiving yards per game. Running back Caleb Hawkins adds balance to the offense with 524 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Head coach Eric Morris has quickly transformed Oklahoma State after taking over the program. The Cowboys have won four straight games, including a major victory over Oregon, and have scored more than 40 points in three consecutive contests.

However, Houston presents a difficult defensive challenge. The Cougars have allowed just 74 rushing yards per game, ranking among the nation’s best against the run.

Houston Looks to Continue Its Rise

Houston has also made significant progress under head coach Willie Fritz.

Quarterback Conner Weigman leads the Cougars’ offense, which has shown the ability to produce explosive plays while protecting the football. Houston enters Saturday with a positive turnover margin and a three-game winning streak.

The Cougars’ defensive performance could be especially important against Oklahoma State’s high-powered passing attack. If Houston can slow down Hawkins and force Mestemaker into difficult passing situations, it could disrupt the Cowboys’ offensive rhythm.

Houston also has a dangerous weapon in tight end Patrick Overmyer, who has recorded six touchdown receptions this season. His ability to create mismatches could give Weigman another reliable option in the passing game.

Fritz has Houston competing near the top of the Big 12 standings, and Saturday offers an opportunity to earn another major victory in front of the home crowd.

A Major Big 12 Test

Both teams enter the matchup with momentum, talented quarterbacks and plenty to play for.

Oklahoma State wants to extend its winning streak and remain unbeaten in conference play. Houston hopes to protect its home field and prove it can compete with the Big 12’s top contenders.

With Mestemaker leading the Cowboys and Weigman directing the Cougars, the quarterback matchup will be one of the biggest storylines of the night.

Saturday’s showdown gives both programs an opportunity to strengthen their position in the conference race as the season moves toward its second half.
