The New York Giants picked up a hard-fought victory Sunday, defeating the Tennessee Titans 12-7 at MetLife Stadium to improve to 2-1 on the season.
In their first game without starting quarterback Jaxson Dart, the Giants leaned on their defense and special teams to get the job done. New York struggled to find the end zone, but four field goals from rookie kicker Dominic Zvada and a clutch interception in the closing seconds proved to be enough.
The victory also gave head coach John Harbaugh his second win at home, while the Titans dropped to 0-3.
Giants Lean on Their Defense
With Dart sidelined for the rest of the regular season, Jameis Winston took over at quarterback for his first start of the year.
Winston completed 12 of 18 passes for 117 yards and helped New York manage the game. He also used his legs when necessary, scrambling for a 15-yard first down.
The Giants’ offense struggled to generate touchdowns, but Zvada came through with four field goals to account for all 12 of New York’s points.
It was not a flashy offensive performance, but the Giants did enough to keep themselves in front.
Jevón Holland Seals the Win
The biggest moment of the afternoon came with Tennessee threatening to steal the game late.
With only 14 seconds remaining, Titans quarterback Cam Ward attempted to find a receiver in the end zone. Giants safety Jevón Holland came up with the interception, ending Tennessee’s final scoring opportunity and securing the 12-7 victory.
The play capped off a strong defensive effort from New York, which held the Titans to just one touchdown.
However, the Giants also suffered a potentially significant injury of their own. Defensive star Brian Burns left the game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury, adding to the team’s concerns after Dart’s season-ending injury.
Giants Find a Way to Win
Sunday’s victory was an important response for a Giants team coming off a disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
New York did not need a big offensive performance to get the job done. Instead, the Giants relied on their defense, timely kicking and a game-changing play from Holland when the game was on the line.
The win moves New York to 2-1, giving the team momentum as it prepares for its next matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
For the Titans, the loss drops them to 0-3 and leaves them still searching for their first victory of the season.
The Giants may be dealing with major injuries, but Sunday’s win showed they can still find ways to compete while navigating adversity.
