The Iowa Hawkeyes pulled off an unbelievable finish Saturday, stunning No. 18 Michigan 20-19 with a touchdown on the final play of the game at the Big House.
With the clock winding down and the game hanging in the balance, Iowa quarterback Hank Brown connected with wide receiver Reece Vander Zee for a 16-yard touchdown, sending the Hawkeyes into celebration and silencing the Michigan crowd.
The dramatic victory moves No. 17 Iowa to 4-0 and gives the Hawkeyes their first win at Michigan Stadium since 2010. It was a remarkable finish to a hard-fought Big Ten showdown between two undefeated teams.
Iowa Delivers When It Matters Most
Michigan appeared to be in control for much of the afternoon, but Iowa refused to go away.
The Hawkeyes trailed late and needed one final drive to keep their perfect record intact. Brown led the offense down the field, giving Iowa a chance to steal the game in the closing seconds.
Then came the play that will be remembered all season.
Brown found Vander Zee in the left corner of the end zone for the game-winning touchdown as time expired. The 16-yard connection completed an incredible finish and gave Iowa a one-point victory.

Vander Zee Comes Up Clutch
Vander Zee was at the center of Iowa’s biggest moment of the season.
The receiver finished with five catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner. When the Hawkeyes needed a play, Vander Zee delivered.
Brown also had a strong afternoon, completing 21 of 35 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns. The quarterback stayed composed in the final moments and gave Iowa the opportunity to pull off the upset.
The winning touchdown was made possible by another huge play just moments earlier. Brown connected with tight end Addison Ostrenga on a tipped pass that went for 30 yards, keeping Iowa’s hopes alive and setting up the final throw.
Hawkeyes Pull Off a Road Upset
Iowa entered the matchup ranked No. 17, while Michigan sat at No. 18. Both teams were undefeated, making the game an important early-season test in the Big Ten.
The Hawkeyes overcame a difficult road environment and a Michigan offense that moved the ball effectively. The Wolverines finished with more than 400 yards of offense, but Iowa made the plays it needed in the decisive moments.
The victory also marked Iowa’s first road win over a ranked Big Ten opponent since 2015.
For head coach Kirk Ferentz, it was another memorable win in a rivalry that has produced plenty of tough battles over the years.
