Clemson picked up another important ACC victory Friday night, traveling across the country and defeating California 24-10 in Berkeley.
The Tigers entered the matchup looking to build on their comeback victory over North Carolina, and they delivered with a strong defensive performance against the Golden Bears. The win moves Clemson to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in ACC play.
Tigers Control the Game
Clemson came into California facing a difficult road environment and a Cal offense that had scored 49 points in its previous game against Wagner.
Instead, the Tigers’ defense kept the Golden Bears out of the end zone for most of the night. Cal’s lone touchdown came on a fumble return, as Clemson’s defense continued to make life difficult for the Golden Bears’ offense.
The Tigers also avoided the offensive struggles that had plagued them earlier in the season and put together enough drives to build a lead and maintain control.
Another ACC Win for Clemson
The victory gives Clemson its second consecutive ACC win after the Tigers rallied to defeat North Carolina 28-20 last week.
Clemson entered the season with plenty of questions following the 51-10 loss to LSU, but the Tigers have responded with three straight victories. They defeated Georgia Southern 22-7 before coming back against North Carolina, and now they have added a road victory over Cal.
Friday night’s game was also Clemson’s first ACC road game on the West Coast following the conference’s expansion.
Clemson Builds Momentum
The Tigers now return home with a 3-1 record and plenty of momentum heading into their next major ACC challenge.
Clemson will host Miami next Saturday, giving the Tigers another opportunity to make a statement in conference play.
After a rough opening week against LSU, Clemson has steadily turned its season around. The Tigers are now 2-0 in ACC play and have won three straight games.
The 24-10 victory over Cal gives Clemson another important win and keeps the Tigers moving forward as the ACC season begins to heat up.
Clemson is rolling, and the Tigers are starting to look like a completely different team from the one that opened the season in Baton Rouge.
