Ole Miss delivered one of the biggest wins of the young 2026 season Saturday night.
The No. 8 Rebels defeated No. 7 LSU 32-24 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, improving to 3-0 and spoiling Lane Kiffin’s highly anticipated return to Oxford as the Tigers’ head coach.
Rebels Dominate The First Half
Ole Miss came out firing and controlled nearly everything during the opening two quarters.
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was outstanding, completing 21 of 27 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. The Rebels’ offense repeatedly moved the ball while their defensive front made life difficult for LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt.
Ole Miss eventually built a 24-7 halftime advantage, putting LSU in a massive hole heading into the second half.
LSU Makes A Furious Comeback
The Tigers weren’t finished.
LSU responded after halftime, scoring 14 points in the third quarter and cutting deeply into the Rebels’ advantage. Sam Leavitt helped keep the Tigers alive with his legs, while LSU’s offense finally started finding openings against the Ole Miss defense.
The comeback made the final quarter extremely tense as Ole Miss tried to protect its early lead.
Rebels Finish The Job
Ole Miss managed to withstand the late push and ultimately secured the eight-point victory.
Chambliss finished the night with 363 passing yards and three total touchdowns, while Ole Miss finished with 426 total yards. LSU managed 330 yards of offense.
The Rebels also forced a critical turnover late in the game, helping shut the door on LSU’s comeback attempt.
A Huge Night In Oxford
The victory gives Ole Miss a 3-0 record and a massive SEC win to open conference play.
It also made Kiffin’s return to Oxford one he won’t soon forget. The former Ole Miss coach came back to face his old program in one of the most anticipated games of the season, but the Rebels’ players and fans ultimately had the last word.
Ole Miss came into the night looking to make a statement.
The Rebels left Oxford with a win over a top 10 opponent and plenty of momentum heading into the rest of SEC play.
