The Florida Gators are officially 3-0.
Florida traveled to Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday night and defeated Auburn 44-39 in a wild SEC opener, giving first-year head coach Jon Sumrall his first conference victory with the Gators.
Gators Jump Out Early
Florida wasted no time making its presence felt.
The Gators took a 7-3 lead in the first quarter after Jadan Baugh scored on a two-yard touchdown run. Duke Clark later added a 20-yard touchdown run, helping Florida build a 14-3 advantage.
Auburn fought back, but Florida carried a 20-17 lead into halftime.
Baugh Takes Over
The second half belonged to Jadan Baugh.
The Florida running back broke loose for a 33-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, pushing the Gators’ lead to 27-17. After Auburn answered, Baugh struck again — this time on a 53-yard touchdown run that gave Florida a 41-24 advantage.
Baugh finished with 162 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries. It was his fourth consecutive 100-yard rushing game, dating back to last season.
Auburn Makes It Interesting
The Tigers refused to go quietly.
Auburn scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and continued to pressure Florida until the final minutes. But the Gators’ offense had built enough of a cushion to withstand the late push.
Quarterback Aaron Philo also delivered a strong performance, throwing for 204 yards and a touchdown while helping Florida finish with 495 total yards.
A Huge Win for Florida
The victory is particularly significant because it came on the road against an SEC opponent. It was Florida’s first win at Auburn since 1999 and ended a six-game road losing streak for the Gators.
Florida wasn’t perfect — the Gators were penalized 16 times for 138 yards — but they consistently answered Auburn’s biggest pushes.
Now, Florida returns home with a perfect record and plenty of momentum.
The Gators’ next challenge will be another major one when Ole Miss visits Gainesville next Saturday.
