The Georgia Bulldogs are rolling.
No. 2 Georgia delivered another offensive explosion Saturday afternoon, overwhelming Western Kentucky 70-20 at Sanford Stadium to improve to 2-0 on the season. After opening the year with a 63-3 win over Tennessee State, Kirby Smart’s team showed once again why it is one of the favorites in the SEC.
Bulldogs Explode In The First Half
Georgia wasted no time taking control.
The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on their first seven possessions and raced out to a 49-0 lead before halftime. The 49 points tied a Georgia school record for the most points scored in a single half since 1950.
The game was essentially over before halftime, but Georgia continued making big plays throughout the afternoon.
Gunner Stockton Makes History
Quarterback Gunner Stockton was spectacular.
Stockton completed 13 of 16 passes for 234 yards and five touchdowns, tying a Georgia record for touchdown passes in a half. He became just the third Georgia quarterback to throw five touchdown passes in a single half.
Stockton connected with five different receivers for touchdowns, including a 70-yard strike to Sacovie White-Helton that pushed Georgia’s lead to 35-0.
The Bulldogs also got a huge 70-yard rushing touchdown from Ryan Puglisi after Stockton exited the game.
Georgia Looks Ready For SEC Play
Georgia finished with 493 total yards, averaging an incredible 8.2 yards per play. The Bulldogs also scored on offense, defense and special teams, showing just how complete the performance was.
There were a few mistakes late in the game, including turnovers from the backups, but Georgia had already built an enormous cushion.
Now the Bulldogs turn their attention toward the SEC.
Georgia is 2-0, has scored 133 points through two games and has looked dominant from start to finish.
The SEC better be ready Georgia is coming.
