LSU could actually get kicked out of the SEC.
The SEC has requested a temporary restraining order against LSU as it attempts to clear the way for a meeting Thursday where conference presidents and chancellors could vote on expelling LSU from the conference.
Yes, seriously.
The dispute stems from LSU’s ongoing fight with the SEC over the eligibility of former professional football players. But what started as an eligibility disagreement has now turned into an all-out legal war between the conference and one of its most recognizable programs.
According to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, conference leaders believe LSU’s continued membership could be inconsistent with the SEC’s stated values and principles. Expelling LSU would require approval from two-thirds of SEC presidents and chancellors.
Nothing has been decided yet.
But the fact we’re even talking about this is insane.
LSU has been a member of the SEC since the conference was founded in 1933. We’re talking about one of the biggest brands in college football potentially being removed from the league it has called home for nearly a century.
Thursday could become one of the wildest days in SEC history.
