Nick Saban is done sitting on the sidelines.
The greatest college football coach of his generation is now appearing in a national commercial telling Congress to pass the Protect College Sports Act.
And honestly?
He’s right.
Saban has spent months warning that college athletics has become a complete mess. The transfer portal, NIL bidding wars, eligibility rules and constant legal battles have created a system where nobody seems to know what the rules are from one Saturday to the next.
His commercial puts it bluntly: college sports are built on tradition, and that tradition is worth defending.
That’s not an argument against players making money.
Saban has explicitly said athletes should profit from their name, image and likeness. His argument is that legitimate NIL shouldn’t become an excuse for unlimited recruiting and transfer bidding wars.
And that’s where a lot of fans are.
Pay the players.
Let them make money.
But for the love of God, give everybody a set of rules.
Saban has called the bill roughly 80% of the solution, not perfect, but a massive step toward bringing order to college sports.
When Nick Saban starts making commercials about saving college football, maybe it’s time for Washington to listen.
Let the man cook.
