Starters Set for Extended Action
The Carolina Panthers return to the field Friday night when they travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in the second week of the 2026 NFL preseason. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at EverBank Stadium.
This matchup should provide a much better test for Carolina’s starters after a disappointing performance against the Buffalo Bills last weekend. The Panthers’ first team offense struggled to find a rhythm in Buffalo, while Bryce Young completed just 3 of 5 passes for 18 yards.
With another opportunity to get meaningful preseason reps, Young and the starting offense will be looking to establish momentum early.
Bryce Young and Tetairoa McMillan
One of the biggest storylines will be the connection between Young and second year wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
The two showed encouraging chemistry during Wednesday’s joint practice with Jacksonville. Young connected with McMillan on multiple explosive plays, including a touchdown during a move the-ball period. Panthers head coach Dave Canales praised the offense for settling in after a slow start.
McMillan is expected to be one of the most important pieces of Carolina’s offense this season, making Friday night another opportunity for the young quarterback and receiver to build their chemistry.
Jacksonville’s Starters Also Expected to Play
The Jaguars are expected to give their starters some playing time as well, meaning Carolina could get a look at Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville’s first-team offense.
Jacksonville did not play its starters in last week’s preseason opener against New Orleans but still rallied from a 14-point deficit to win 24-20.
That makes Friday’s matchup particularly valuable for both teams as they prepare for the regular season.
A Key Test for Carolina’s Defense
The Panthers’ defense will face a much tougher challenge if Lawrence and Jacksonville’s starters see extended action. Carolina will be looking for improvement after allowing Buffalo to score 29 points last week.
The pass rush will be worth watching, especially Jaelan Phillips, who recorded a sack against Buffalo and has impressed during the preseason.
What to Watch For
This game could be one of Carolina’s most important preseason tests. The Panthers need to find offensive consistency, while Young will look to build confidence heading into the regular season.
After a physical week of joint practices, Friday night should provide another competitive environment.
