Dana White Calls Out Donald Trump Over Gambling Taxes

Dana White publicly asking President Donald Trump to step in and fix America’s gambling tax laws shows just how big of a mess this situation has become for sports betting, Las Vegas and even the UFC itself.

According to ESPN, White sent a letter to Trump asking Congress to reverse a controversial provision in the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” that now limits gambling loss deductions to just 90%. Previously, bettors could deduct 100% of losses against winnings.

That change may sound small on paper, but the impact is massive.

Under the current rule, gamblers can technically lose money overall and still owe taxes. For example, a bettor who wins $100,000 and loses $100,000 would still be taxed as if they made profit because only 90% of the losses can be deducted. That is why professional gamblers, poker players and casino insiders have been furious ever since the law passed.

Dana White is not just speaking as a UFC executive either. He is one of the most famous high-stakes gamblers in America and someone deeply tied to Las Vegas culture. He argued the law hurts tourism, discourages legal sports betting and could even push gamblers toward illegal offshore betting markets.

White also pointed out how connected the UFC has become to legalized sports betting. Betting partnerships, sponsorships and fan engagement are now huge parts of the UFC business model. If fewer people legally gamble, that directly impacts the sport’s ecosystem.

The political side makes this even more fascinating.

Trump and Dana White have had a close relationship for years, with Trump frequently attending UFC events and White openly supporting him publicly. The UFC is even expected to host a major event at the White House this summer. That relationship is why White going directly to Trump matters more than a random executive complaining online.

Now the pressure is growing on Washington to reverse the law before tax season chaos fully begins in 2027.

Because if Dana White, Vegas casinos, professional gamblers and even bipartisan politicians are all agreeing on one thing, Congress may have created a bigger problem than expected.
