The Tennessee Titans have officially moved on from quarterback Will Levis.
Tennessee waived Levis on Sunday as the team trimmed its roster to 53 players ahead of the 2026 NFL season. The move ends a three-year run that once appeared to have Levis positioned as the future of the franchise.
The Titans selected Levis with the 33rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft after trading up to take the former Kentucky quarterback. He quickly generated excitement during his rookie season, throwing four touchdown passes in his first NFL start against the Atlanta Falcons.
However, Levis struggled to establish himself as a consistent starter. He started 21 games for Tennessee over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, finishing with a 5-16 record while throwing 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
Injuries also played a major role in his downfall. Levis missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing surgery on his shoulder, while the Titans moved in a different direction at quarterback.
Tennessee selected Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, making it clear that Levis’ path to becoming the franchise quarterback was over. The Titans then added veteran Mitchell Trubisky, who emerged as Ward’s backup during training camp this summer.
Levis entered the preseason competing for a roster spot, but ultimately couldn’t pass Trubisky or secure a role on the 53-man roster. He finished the preseason finale against the Chicago Bears completing 14 of 22 passes for 143 yards.
The Titans’ decision marks the end of a disappointing chapter for both sides. Levis showed flashes of the talent that made him a highly regarded draft prospect, but inconsistency and injuries prevented him from reaching his potential in Tennessee.
Levis was not claimed after being placed on waivers, meaning he is now a free agent and can sign with any NFL team.
At just 27 years old, Levis still has an opportunity to revive his career. The next team willing to give him a chance will be hoping it can unlock the potential that made him one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects in the 2023 draft.
For now, though, the Will Levis era in Tennessee is officially over.
