Georgia’s running back room took a significant hit when Kentucky transfer Dante Dowdell suffered serious injuries in an ATV accident that have left him out indefinitely. Football comes second when dealing with something that serious, but from an on-field perspective, Georgia lost an experienced 225-pound back who could have played a major role this season.
The good news for the Dawgs? They might already have one of the best running back duos in college football.
Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens give Georgia two proven SEC backs with completely different styles.
Frazier is the headliner after leading Georgia with 947 rushing yards on 173 carries, averaging 5.5 yards per attempt while scoring six touchdowns last season. He’s explosive, dangerous in space and capable of turning a small opening into a huge play. After nearly reaching 1,000 yards while sharing touches, Frazier could be positioned for a monster season in 2026.
Then Georgia can turn around and hand the ball to the 225-pound Bowens.
Bowens rushed for 526 yards and six touchdowns on 103 carries, averaging 5.1 yards per attempt. He’s the physical complement to Frazier — a powerful runner who can wear down defenses and give Georgia another legitimate option without the offense taking a major step backward.
Combined, the two produced 1,473 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns last season while averaging well over five yards per carry.
That’s a scary foundation for Year Two.
And Georgia still has Dwight Phillips Jr., who averaged 6.0 yards per carry on limited opportunities and provides another explosive change-of-pace option.
Dowdell’s absence certainly hurts Georgia’s depth, but it doesn’t change what sits at the top of the depth chart.
Frazier and Bowens aren’t just a good SEC combination. They have a legitimate argument as one of the best running back duos in the entire country.
If both take another step in 2026, Georgia’s backfield could once again become the identity of an offense looking to make another championship run.
