The Atlanta Braves came through when it mattered most Wednesday night, defeating the New York Mets 6-3 at Truist Park to win two of three games in the series.
Atlanta got another strong performance from its pitching staff, with Tyler Mahle delivering six impressive innings. Mahle struck out seven and allowed just one run, continuing his strong stretch since joining the Braves at the trade deadline.
The Braves’ offense provided plenty of power as well. Lane Thomas opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning, while Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Riley went back-to-back in the seventh to help Atlanta pull away. Riley and Drake Baldwin also finished with three hits apiece.
The Mets managed to keep things interesting with three solo home runs of their own, including blasts from Luis Torrens, Luis Robert Jr. and Bo Bichette. New York threatened in the ninth inning with runners on the corners, but Atlanta’s defense and pitching held firm to close out the victory.
The win gives the Braves some momentum against one of their biggest division rivals. Although the Mets still won the overall season series 7-6, Atlanta finished the final meeting between the two clubs on a high note by taking the series.
For the Braves, it was another example of timely hitting and strong pitching coming together. With the postseason race heating up, wins against quality opponents could become increasingly important.
Atlanta will look to carry that momentum into its next series as the Braves continue their push toward October.
