Could LeBron James Could Be on the Move to Longtime Rival?

Warriors reportedly dreaming big with Anthony Davis, LeBron James pursuit

The Golden State Warriors aren’t thinking small.

According to multiple reports, the Warriors are exploring a blockbuster scenario that would send Jimmy Butler to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Anthony Davis before making a serious push to lure LeBron James to the Bay Area. Nothing is imminent, and no deal has been finalized, but the speculation has quickly become one of the NBA offseason’s biggest storylines, as far fetched as it may seem.

Personally, EasySportz is in a we’ll believe it when we see it approach, but we must still cover it.

If it somehow comes together, it would unite James with longtime rival—and close friend—Stephen Curry after years of battling each other on the NBA’s biggest stage. The two superstars finally shared the court as teammates during the 2024 Paris Olympics, helping Team USA capture another gold medal and giving basketball fans a glimpse of what they could accomplish together.

Now, there is growing speculation that partnership could continue in the NBA.

The reported framework would give Golden State one of the league’s most accomplished veteran cores. Curry, a two-time NBA MVP and four-time NBA champion, remains one of basketball’s most dangerous offensive players. James, entering his 24th NBA season, ranks as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with more than 42,000 career points and owns four MVP awards and four NBA championships. Davis is a 10-time All-Star, five-time All-NBA selection and one of the league’s premier interior defenders when healthy.

Moving Butler would not be an easy decision. Before suffering a season-ending ACL injury last season, the six-time All-Star averaged 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists while helping stabilize the Warriors after arriving from Miami. His contract and injury status, however, have fueled speculation that Golden State could look elsewhere as it searches for one more championship run during Curry’s prime.

From a basketball standpoint, Davis would fill one of Golden State’s biggest needs by adding elite size, rim protection and rebounding alongside Curry and Draymond Green. Pairing him with James would also reunite the duo that led the Los Angeles Lakers to the 2020 NBA championship.

For now, the reports remain just that—reports. But they underscore one thing: the Warriors appear determined to maximize the closing years of Curry’s Hall of Fame career. If that means chasing LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the same offseason, Golden State is reportedly willing to at least explore the possibility.
