The Stefon Diggs Drama Isn’t Ending Anytime Soon

Stefon Diggs may have avoided a conviction, but the damage to his NFL image is already done.

A Massachusetts jury found Diggs not guilty of assault and strangulation charges tied to an alleged altercation with his former private chef after just 90 minutes of deliberation. The case centered around accusations that Diggs assaulted her during a dispute involving unpaid wages and financial disagreements.

During the trial, the defense aggressively challenged the credibility of the accuser and repeatedly focused on financial motives. Testimony revealed discussions about unpaid compensation, alleged settlement demands, and disputes over money that quickly became a central theme of the courtroom battle.

And honestly, that is what makes this story feel messy for everyone involved.

Because even though Diggs was acquitted, this entire saga added another layer of controversy to a player whose career already feels far removed from the superstar image he once had in Buffalo. Just a few years ago, Diggs was viewed as one of the league’s elite receivers and one of the NFL’s biggest personalities. Now he is a free agent coming off legal drama, locker room questions, and public controversy.

The timing could not have been worse either.

Diggs had already been released by the Patriots earlier this offseason despite posting over 1,000 receiving yards during the 2025 season. Teams around the league were already weighing whether the aging star was worth the attention that follows him. Now general managers have even more reason to hesitate.

Still, someone will probably sign him.

Talent like Diggs does not stay available forever, especially in a league desperate for proven wide receivers. But the days of him being viewed as a franchise-changing superstar may be over. At this point, teams will likely see him as a short-term gamble rather than a foundational piece.

And that is a massive fall for a player who once looked destined for Canton-level conversations.
