Neymar clearly is not ready to let the World Cup dream die yet.
With the 2026 World Cup getting closer, Neymar has once again made it clear that he still sees himself as part of Brazil’s story. According to MARCA, Neymar hinted at Carlo Ancelotti regarding his hopes of being included and even floated the dream scenario of a Brazil vs. Argentina World Cup final. That alone is enough to get soccer fans talking, because if there is one matchup that would break the internet, it is Brazil against Argentina with everything on the line.
The problem is that Neymar’s place is no longer guaranteed. Ancelotti has already made it clear that reputation will not be enough. He previously said Neymar would have to deserve his spot and be better than the other options, while AP reported that Ancelotti has not called him up since taking over Brazil.
That is what makes this so fascinating. Neymar is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals, but his body, form and availability have turned this into a real debate. Brazil has younger stars, fresher legs and a manager who does not seem interested in handing out legacy spots.
Still, it would feel strange to see Brazil enter a World Cup without Neymar involved. For all the criticism, injuries and drama, he is still one of the most talented players Brazil has ever produced. And if he is healthy, motivated and sharp, he gives Brazil a different level of creativity.
A Brazil vs. Argentina final would be pure chaos. Messi’s Argentina trying to defend its crown. Neymar trying to finally get the World Cup moment that has always escaped him. Ancelotti trying to restore Brazil to the top of world soccer. That is not just a final. That is a movie.
But Neymar has to earn the role now. The name still matters, but it cannot be the only reason he goes. If he wants one last dance, he has to prove he can still help Brazil win.
