Here’s an NBA Longshot to Win the Title

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets are not in the NBA championship conversation this season, but there is growing belief the foundation is starting to take shape.

Charlotte Hornets remain a longshot to contend for a title in the current playoff picture, with roster depth and late-game execution still lagging behind established Eastern Conference powers.

The upside, however, is clear.

Young talent and developing pieces have given Charlotte a more defined identity, with flashes of offensive creativity and improved pace suggesting the franchise is trending upward rather than treading water.

The organization continues to build around its core, hoping internal development and future roster moves can close the gap. Consistency remains the primary hurdle, as the Hornets still struggle to sustain high-level play over full 48-minute stretches against elite competition.

Defensively, Charlotte remains a work in progress. Contending teams typically rank among the league’s best on that end, and the Hornets still allow too many easy looks and extended runs.

Still, patience appears to be the plan.

Around the league, evaluations of Charlotte increasingly point to a timeline measured in seasons, not months. A realistic leap into true contention likely requires another year or two of development, plus targeted upgrades in experience and defensive toughness.

For now, the Hornets sit outside the title tier.

But unlike recent seasons, the direction is pointing up — even if the destination is still some distance away.
