  1. Miami (4-0) The Hurricanes are looking every bit the national contender they were hyped up to be. Their defense has been a stone wall, holding opponents to just 46 points through four games, including a dominant 26-7 victory over rival Florida. With a bye week ahead, they are well-positioned for a matchup with Florida State.
  2. Florida State (3-0) The Seminoles have been unstoppable so far, with an impressive 174 points scored in their three games. They had a bye this past week, but their offensive firepower and stout defense have earned them a top spot.
  3. Georgia Tech (4-0, 1-0 ACC) The Yellow Jackets are proving to be a real force in the ACC. With a perfect 4-0 record and a conference win over Temple, they are turning heads. Their 45-24 win was a statement that they are a team to be reckoned with.
  4. Syracuse (3-1, 1-0 ACC) Syracuse is off to a surprising start with a 3-1 record and a 34-21 conference win at Clemson. The loss of QB Steve Angeli to an Achilles tear will be a significant obstacle to overcome.
  5. Louisville (3-0) Louisville has started the season strong and has yet to face a quality opponent. We will know more about the Cardinals when they face Pitt Saturday.
  6. NC State (3-1, 1-1 ACC) After a tough loss to Duke, NC State finds themselves with a 3-1 record. They have had a strong start, including a win over Virginia, but it’s still unknown how good the Wolfpack is.
  7. Virginia (3-1, 1-0 ACC) The Cavaliers are playing with a new energy this season. Their 34-31 loss to NC State explains why they’re ranked just beneath them.
  8. California (3-1) The Golden Bears have a respectable 3-1 record, including a good win against Minnesota, but their 34-0 loss to San Diego State is a major concern. They need to find consistency to compete in the ACC.
  9. Duke (2-2, 1-0 ACC) Duke has been inconsistent so far, but their conference win over NC State was critical. They are a tough team that can score enough points to upset anyone on a given day.
  10. Pittsburgh (2-1) The Panthers have a solid record, but their loss to a woeful West Virginia raises questions about their ability to win against quality opponents.
  11. SMU (2-2) SMU was picked to contend for the conference title, but has struggled with two losses. They have a tough schedule ahead but have a bye week to prepare for Syracuse.
  12. Wake Forest (2-1, 0-1 ACC) Wake Forest has a winning record so far record, but their conference loss to NC State and narrow win over Kennesaw State are concerns. A tough matchup with red hot Georgia Tech awaits this weekend, but after that, the Demon Deacons only face one ranked team the rest of the season.
  13. Clemson (1-3, 0-2 ACC) Clemson is one of the biggest surprises of the season, and not in a good way. With a 1-3 record and two conference losses, the Tigers are in trouble. Pressure is building on coach Dabo Sweeney to find answers.
  14. Boston College (1-2, 0-1 ACC) Boston College is another team that is struggling with a losing record, including a puzzling loss to Stanford. They have a tough road ahead and need to find a way to win.
  15. North Carolina (2-2) UNC has had a difficult start to the season with two blowout losses to TCU and UCF. Coach Bill Belichick has a bye week to get the Tar Heels back on track to host an angry Clemson in two weeks.
  16. Stanford (1-3, 1-1 ACC) Stanford has had a rough start so far to their season. They will be favored this week against San Jose State.
  17. Virginia Tech (1-3) Virginia Tech started the season with three losses. The Hokies fired head coach Brent Pry and rebounded with a win over Wofford. NC State awaits this weekend.
