Barbara J. Perenic/Imagn

College football just started for this year in August, with fans nationwide eager to see which programs will rise to the occasion. Behind every successful team is a head coach whose leadership, strategy, and ability to motivate athletes to shape the path to victory. As per the Sports Grid, ESPN, and The Sporting News, these are the top 10 college football head coaches for the 2024 season.

Kirby Smart, Georgia

Dale Zanine/Imagn

With back-to-back championships in 2021 and 2022, Smart is an undoubted number-one coach in college football. The manager is famous for his talent selection and player development, which have seen him produce 55 NFL draft picks. Considering he’s unbeaten against all current coaches, Smart will lead Georgia to greatness.

Kalen DeBoer, Alabama

William McLelland/Imagn

It was always going to be challenging to replace Nick Saban, but many can agree that Kalen is the best person for the job. Since beginning his career at Sioux Falls, the lad has won with each team he has helmed, and he looks to replicate his success with Alabama.

Dabo Swinney, Clemson

Ken Ruinard/Imagn

Swinney is a serial winner, with 10 division titles and eight league titles to show for it. The legendary manager gave Saban a run for his money and took Clemson to the top, and it’s now considered among the best programs in the country.

Kyle Whittingham, Utah

Jamie Sabau/Imagn

Since taking the reins at Utah in 2005, Whittingham has been one of the most consistent coaches, leading the team to an unbeaten season in 2008. While he doesn’t have the resources the other schools have, the coach’s acumen has seen the Utes become a title contender.

Ryan Day, Ohio State

Joseph Maiorana/Imagn

Like in any other sport, there are ups and downs, and Day’s low moment came when Ohio State recently lost to Michigan. Yet, that loss doesn’t mean his team isn’t performing; the Buckeyes have one of the best offenses and have set their sights on winning their first trophy since 2014.

Mike Norvell, Florida State

Melina Myers/Imagn

When Mike Norvell took over Florida State, the team had only won 26 games in the previous five seasons combined. The manager turned things around, and in the past two years, the team has 23 wins. Norvell has rejuvenated the group, and his intelligent use of the transfer portal has helped him land numerous talents.

Steve Sarkisian, Texas

Rick Osentoski/Imagn

The Longhorns seem to be back at the top, and that is largely because of Steve Sakisian. With a College Football playoff appearance in 2023, morale is high within the team to achieve greater things in the future. Steve’s experience gained under Saban and Pete Carroll is undoubtedly paying off.

Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss

Jim Dedmon/Imagn

Widely regarded as one of the best offensive minds in the sport, Kiffin’s teams always thrive on offense. In the past couple of seasons, Ole Miss has had an average of 33 points. That’s no mean feat, considering the level of competition. Still, Kiffin is looking to secure a trophy for the Rebels.

Dan Lanning, Oregon

Craig Strobeck/Imagn

After only two years at the helm, Lanning has turned the Ducks into formidable contenders. The prolific coach has taken the team to the top by implementing an aggressive playing style, which, while it has divided the fans, has allowed its success not to be overlooked.

Lance Leipold, Kansas

Ron Johnson/Imagn

Leipold has built a winning mentality within each team he has led, and Kansas is no different. Since signing with them in 2021, he has led the Jayhawks to back-to-back bowl appearances, and now, in his fourth season, a title is beckoning.
