First Overall Draft Pick in 1989

Troy Aikman was selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the team’s first overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft, a decision that would alter the course of the franchise. Fresh out of UCLA, he was chosen to lead a struggling Cowboys team that had just finished a dismal 3-13 season.

Rough Rookie Season (1989)

One of Aikman’s most memorable performances occurred on November 6, 1995, during a Monday Night Football matchup against the Green Bay Packers. In this high-stakes game, Aikman threw 316 yards and three touchdowns in a thrilling 34-24 victory for Dallas.

Super Bowl XXX Victory (1996)

Winning the Super Bowl XXX marked Aikman’s third Super Bowl victory. During the game, the Cowboys pushed past the Pittsburgh Steelers with a score of 27-17. Aikman also threw for 209 yards and one touchdown, becoming one of only a few quarterbacks to win three Super Bowls.

Six Consecutive Pro Bowl Selections (1991–1996)
