During the rookie season, his performance against the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football was a defining moment. Campbell rushed for an astonishing 199 yards and four touchdowns, but it was his 81-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that etched his name in history.

Outstanding Performance Against Falcons (September 3, 1978)

While playing against the Atlanta Falcons in 1978, Earl rushed for 137 yards and scored a 73-yard touchdown. Despite his efforts, the Houston Oilers lost the game 20-14. Still, it took Earl’s long touchdown run to ignite his team’s offence and keep them competitive.

The Los Angeles Rams tried containing Campbell in this game, but his relentless power and agility consistently broke through their defences. Earl rushed for 195 yards and scored two touchdowns, leading the Houston Oilers to a 24-20 victory.

Dominance Over the Chiefs (November 22, 1980)

In the face-off against the Kansas City Chiefs, Campbell rushed for 178 yards on 38 carries and scored a touchdown. He led the Houston Oilers to a 27-7 victory, consistently breaking through the Chiefs’ defence. Houston’s quarterback, Dan Pastorini, contributed with two touchdown passes.  

Explosive Game Against the Chargers (December 7, 1980)

On December 7, 1980, he rushed for 199 yards and scored two touchdowns, leading the Oilers to a 30-0 victory against the San Diego Chargers. At the end of this game, the athlete became known for his ability to wear down defences.  

Crushing Victory Against the Packers (December 14, 1980)

Thanks to Earl’s 181 yards and two touchdowns, the Houston Oilers triumphed 22-3 against the Green Bay Packers in December 1980. Campbell’s dominance was evident as he carried the ball 36 times, including a notable 24-yard touchdown run.  

Powerhouse Game Against the Seahawks (October 11, 1981)

While playing against the Seattle Seahawks, Earl rushed for a franchise-record 39 carries and accumulated 202 yards. This led the Houston Oilers to a decisive 35-17 victory. In this season, he finished with 1,376 rushing yards and ten touchdowns.  

Record-Breaking Game Against Vikings (October 18, 1981)

In 1981, the athlete led the Houston Oilers in a tightly contested game against the Minnesota Vikings. Campbell rushed for 86 yards on 27 carries, contributing to the Oilers’ offensive efforts, although they lost 28-6. However, Earl finished the season with 1,376 rushing yards.
