Utes Hold Off Buffaloes Late to Remain Unbeaten in Big 12 Play
The No. 11 Utah Utes survived a furious second-half comeback from Colorado on Saturday night, escaping Folsom Field with a 27-24 victory. Utah built an early advantage before the Buffaloes rallied in the third quarter, but the Utes responded late to preserve their undefeated record in Big 12 play.
The victory improves Utah to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action, while Colorado falls to 2-4 and remains winless in Big 12 play.
Utah Controls the First Half
Utah established control early, taking a 13-0 lead into halftime. Quarterback Devon Dampier connected with Hunter Andrews for an eight yard touchdown during the opening quarter, capping a lengthy drive that gave the Utes early momentum.
Utah’s defense also played a major role in the first half, keeping Colorado off the scoreboard and forcing the Buffaloes to struggle for offensive consistency. Two additional field goals helped the Utes extend their advantage to 13 points.
However, Colorado was far from finished.
Buffaloes Rally After Halftime
Colorado came out with renewed energy in the third quarter, scoring touchdowns on its first two drives to take a 14-13 lead.
Quarterback Isaac Wilson connected with running back JaQuail Smith for a spectacular 68-yard touchdown, giving the Buffaloes a much needed spark. DeKalon Taylor followed with an 18-yard rushing touchdown as Colorado suddenly took control of the game.
The Buffaloes added a field goal, but Utah answered to regain the lead. The Utes entered the fourth quarter ahead 20-17, setting up a tense finish.
Utes Make the Plays That Matter
Utah delivered when it mattered most, adding another touchdown in the fourth quarter to create separation. Colorado responded with a late scoring drive, keeping the game within reach, but the Buffaloes could not complete the comeback.
Wilson’s costly interception in the closing minutes helped Utah protect its advantage and secure the three point victory.
Utah Keeps Rolling
The win keeps Utah undefeated in conference play and strengthens its position in the Big 12 race. Colorado showed resilience after its slow start, but the early deficit ultimately proved too difficult to overcome.
Utah now moves forward with its perfect record intact, while Colorado must regroup after another narrow defeat.
