The New Orleans Saints pulled off one of the biggest comebacks of Week 2, rallying from a 14-3 deficit to defeat the Baltimore Ravens 24-17 Sunday afternoon at M&T Bank Stadium.
After struggling early, the Saints completely changed the game in the second half. Quarterback Tyler Shough led the comeback, making several crucial plays with his arm and legs as New Orleans erased Baltimore’s lead.
The Ravens jumped out to a 14-3 advantage behind touchdowns from Derrick Henry and Rashod Bateman. Baltimore carried a 14-6 lead into halftime, while the Saints relied on three Daniel Carlson field goals to stay within striking distance.
New Orleans continued chipping away in the third quarter before finally tying the game in the fourth. Shough connected with Chris Olave on a 21-yard touchdown pass with 9:42 remaining, and Travis Etienne converted the two-point attempt to make it 17-17.
The Saints then delivered the decisive drive.
With just over a minute and a half remaining, New Orleans faced fourth-and-goal from the Baltimore 1-yard line. Rather than settle for a field goal, the Saints kept the offense on the field. Shough powered his way across the goal line on a quarterback sneak with 1:28 remaining, giving New Orleans its first lead of the afternoon. A replay review upheld the touchdown.
Baltimore still had one final chance. Lamar Jackson moved the Ravens into Saints territory, but his deep pass with 13 seconds remaining was intercepted by Julian Blackmon, sealing the comeback victory.
Shough finished 27-of-34 passing for 252 yards and a touchdown while adding 23 rushing yards and the game-winning score. Olave caught eight passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.
Jackson threw for 235 yards and a touchdown, while Henry rushed for 68 yards and a score. Baltimore managed only three points after halftime, allowing the Saints to completely take control late.
New Orleans improves to 1-1 and will return home next Sunday to host the Las Vegas Raiders. Baltimore also falls to 1-1 and will travel to Brazil next week to face the Dallas Cowboys.
For the Saints, it was another comeback after falling behind early but this time, they finished the job.
