Alabama Overcomes Slow Start to Dominate Kentucky

No. 12 Alabama showed exactly why it remains one of the most dangerous teams in college football on Saturday, overcoming a rough first half before taking over against Kentucky.

The Crimson Tide defeated the Wildcats 45-17 at Kroger Field, improving to 2-0 on the season and opening SEC play with a statement road victory.

Kentucky Comes Out Swinging

For a while, Alabama looked anything but comfortable.

Quarterback Keelon Russell threw two interceptions, including a pick-six, while Kentucky’s defense consistently pressured the young quarterback. The Wildcats took advantage of Alabama’s mistakes and carried a 17-13 lead into halftime.

It looked like Kentucky might have a legitimate chance to pull off a massive upset.

Then everything changed.

Alabama Takes Over

The Crimson Tide completely dominated the second half, outscoring Kentucky 32-0.

Alabama’s defense tightened up while the running game began controlling the matchup. Daniel Hill finished with 104 rushing yards and a touchdown, helping the Tide establish control on the ground.

Russell also settled down after his difficult first half. He finished with 188 passing yards and a touchdown, while Alabama’s offense repeatedly found ways to take advantage of Kentucky’s defense.

The Tide scored 18 points in the third quarter and added another 14 in the fourth, turning a four-point halftime deficit into a comfortable 28-point victory.

A Statement To The SEC

The victory wasn’t perfect, but the way Alabama responded was impressive.

The Crimson Tide dealt with turnovers, penalties and early offensive struggles, yet never allowed the adversity to completely derail the game.

Kentucky managed only 62 yards in the second half, while Alabama continued to pile on points.

For Kalen DeBoer’s team, the win provides an important early SEC victory and plenty of confidence heading forward.

Alabama is now 2-0, and after surviving a scare before dominating the second half, the Crimson Tide have made one thing clear: they are still a major force in the SEC.
