Dabo Swinney is not giving up on Clemson.
After the Tigers were embarrassed by LSU in a stunning 51-10 loss, Swinney made it clear that he believes Clemson can still turn its season around. Despite the disastrous opening night, the veteran head coach is looking ahead and pointing toward what he believes is an 11-1 finish.
That confidence is certainly going to raise some eyebrows.
Clemson was completely overwhelmed by LSU, getting outgained 644-145 and falling behind 31-3 by halftime. The 41-point defeat was the worst loss of Swinney’s coaching career at Clemson.
Yet Swinney’s message afterward was essentially that the season is far from over.
“There are still 11 games left,” was the theme of Swinney’s response as he defended his program and pushed back against questions about Clemson’s roster construction.
Now, the Tigers have to prove that confidence isn’t just talk.
Clemson entered the season with plenty of expectations after a disappointing 7-6 campaign in 2025. Swinney and his staff believed the team had enough talent to compete for the ACC and potentially make a run at the College Football Playoff.
The LSU loss obviously makes that path much more difficult.
Quarterback Christopher Vizzina struggled in his second career start, throwing for just 83 yards and an interception that LSU returned for a touchdown. Meanwhile, the Tigers’ defense had no answer for LSU’s rushing attack as the Tigers piled up 309 yards on the ground.
But Clemson still has 11 games to change the narrative.
The Tigers’ next opportunity comes against Georgia Southern, giving them a chance to respond immediately and begin rebuilding some confidence.
Going 11-1 from this point forward would be an incredible turnaround.
Whether Clemson can actually pull it off remains one of the biggest questions in college football.
Dabo believes it can happen. Now Clemson has to prove him right.
