Jordan Walker Stuns Philly Crowd at the Home Run Derby

Jordan Walker Stuns Philadelphia Crowd to Win 2026 Home Run Derby

Jordan Walker put on a power display Monday night, defeating hometown favorite Kyle Schwarber to win the 41st MLB Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia fans had plenty to cheer for with Phillies stars Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber competing in front of the home crowd, but it was Walker who stole the show and became the first player in St. Louis Cardinals history to win the Home Run Derby.

The top four hitters advanced to the semifinal round and were seeded 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3.

No. 4 Kyle Schwarber — 9 home runs

Schwarber edged Contreras to reach the championship round.

Championship Round

Jordan Walker — 12 home runs

Walker entered his final swing with eight home runs before catching fire, launching four consecutive home runs to finish with 12 and edge Schwarber for the title.

After silencing the hometown crowd, Walker had a message for the Philadelphia faithful.

“You don’t boo nobodies,” Walker said following the victory.

Walker became the first Cardinals player to capture the Home Run Derby crown.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, Major League Baseball hit a home run with the new swing-based Derby format.

Replacing the timed format created a more deliberate and dramatic competition, allowing every swing to carry significance. The championship round, in particular, delivered plenty of suspense, and the new rules produced an entertaining event from start to finish.

If Monday night’s Derby was any indication, MLB should keep this format for years to come.
