Lavonte David Retires After 14 seasons With Buccaneers

TAMPA BAY — Lavonte David announced his retirement Tuesday, bringing an end to a 14-season career spent entirely with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A cornerstone of Tampa Bay’s defense for more than a decade, David exits as one of the most productive and consistent linebackers of his era. The veteran was a key contributor to the franchise’s Super Bowl-winning team during the 2020 season and served as a longtime leader in the locker room.

Drafted in the second round in 2012, David quickly established himself as a tackling machine and versatile playmaker, known for his ability to defend both the run and pass. He finishes his career among the Buccaneers’ all-time leaders in tackles, sacks, and forced turnovers.

In a statement, David reflected on his journey, thanking the organization, teammates, and fans for their support throughout his career.

The 36-year-old’s retirement marks the departure of one of the last remaining links to multiple eras of Buccaneers football, closing the chapter on a career defined by durability, leadership, and sustained excellence in the National Football League.
