SEATTLE — The Seattle Seahawks locked up one of the NFL’s brightest stars Monday, agreeing to a record-setting contract extension with wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
The deal is a four-year extension worth approximately $168.6 million, according to multiple reports, making Smith-Njigba the highest-paid wide receiver in league history.
The contract includes more than $120 million in guaranteed money and carries an average annual value of about $42 million, surpassing the previous mark set by Ja’Marr Chase.
Smith-Njigba, 24, earned the massive payday following a historic 2025 season in which he was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He led the league with 119 receptions and 1,793 receiving yards while adding 10 touchdowns, setting franchise records and emerging as the focal point of Seattle’s offense.
He also played a key role in Seattle’s championship run, helping the Seahawks capture Super Bowl LX with a victory over the New England Patriots.
Drafted 20th overall in 2023 out of Ohio State, Smith-Njigba quickly developed into one of the league’s elite receivers. The extension comes just days after Seattle exercised his fifth-year option, signaling the organization’s long-term commitment to its top playmaker.
The agreement keeps Smith-Njigba under contract through the 2031 season and solidifies him as the centerpiece of a Seahawks team aiming to defend its Super Bowl title.
The deal could also have ripple effects across the league, as other top receivers become eligible for extensions in the coming years, potentially driving salaries even higher at the position.
