The Buffalo Bills made one of the biggest moves of the NFL offseason, agreeing to a trade that brings star wide receiver D.J. Moore from the Chicago Bears to Buffalo. The deal gives quarterback Josh Allen a new top target as the Bills look to strengthen their offense heading into the upcoming season.
According to reports, Buffalo will send a 2026 second-round draft pick to Chicago in exchange for Moore and a 2026 fifth-round pick. The trade will officially become final when the new NFL league year begins on March 11.
A New Weapon for Josh Allen
The move immediately upgrades Buffalo’s passing attack. The Bills have been searching for another elite receiver to pair with Allen, and Moore now steps into that role.
Moore has quietly been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the league over the past several seasons. The 2018 first-round pick has 608 career receptions, 8,213 receiving yards, and 41 touchdowns, building a reputation as a reliable playmaker capable of stretching the field and creating separation.
While Moore’s numbers dipped last season with Chicago — finishing with 50 catches for 682 yards and six touchdowns — the Bills believe a change of scenery and a new offensive system could help him return to elite production.
Reunion With His Former Coach
Another reason the trade makes sense for Buffalo is Moore’s connection with the Bills’ coaching staff. Moore previously played under offensive coordinator Joe Brady during their time together with the Carolina Panthers.
During those seasons, Moore recorded back-to-back 1,100-yard campaigns, showing just how dangerous he can be in Brady’s offensive system.
Now the two reunite in Buffalo, and the Bills hope that chemistry can immediately spark their passing game.
Why the Bears Made the Move
For Chicago, the trade appears to be about roster flexibility and future assets. The Bears have a crowded group of young pass catchers, including rising receivers like Rome Odunze and Luther Burden, which made Moore somewhat expendable.
Moving Moore also frees up valuable salary cap space while adding another high draft pick for the future.
A Potential Game-Changer in the AFC
For the Bills, however, the message is clear: they are going all-in.
Buffalo has remained one of the top contenders in the AFC but has repeatedly fallen short of reaching the Super Bowl. Adding a proven wide receiver like Moore could be exactly what Allen and the offense need to take the next step.
If Moore returns to the form that made him one of the league’s most dangerous receivers earlier in his career, this trade could quickly become one of the most impactful moves of the entire NFL offseason.
And for the rest of the AFC, the message is simple:
The Bills just gave Josh Allen another weapon.
