CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Free agent guard Tre Mann has agreed to a three-year, $24 million deal to stay with the Charlotte Hornets, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Tuesday.

The news, first reported via X, solidifies Mann’s return to the Queen City, where the dynamic guard has become a fan favorite. The Charlotte Hornets, aiming to bolster their roster in the 2025 NBA free agency, secure a key piece in Mann, who brings scoring punch and playmaking to a rebuilding squad.

Tre Mann, a former Florida standout, averaged 14.1 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.9 rebounds across 13 games last season with the Charlotte Hornets, shooting an impressive 40% from three-point range. Despite a herniated disc limiting his 2024-25 campaign, Mann’s explosive performances showcased his value as a combo guard. His agent, Aaron Turner of Verus Sports, confirmed Tre Mann’s full recovery, noting his participation in Charlotte’s offseason 5-on-5s. The Charlotte Hornets’ decision to re-sign Tre Mann underscores their commitment to building around young talent like LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.

The Charlotte Hornets, under president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson, prioritized Tre Mann’s return after declining his $6.94 million qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. “Bringing Tre Mann back is a priority,” Peterson said post-draft, per X posts. The new deal, finalized hours after NBA free agency began Monday at 6 p.m. ET, pairs Mann with newly acquired guard Collin Sexton, forming a potent backcourt. The Charlotte Hornets, who traded centers Mark Williams and Jusuf Nurkić this offseason, aim to leverage Mann’s versatility to climb the Eastern Conference standings.

Tre Mann’s return electrified Charlotte Hornets fans, with X buzzing about his fit alongside Ball and Sexton. The 24-year-old’s knack for catch-and-shoot threes and quick drives complements the Charlotte Hornets’ up-tempo style. Despite a crowded guard rotation, including Vasilije Micic and rookie Kon Knueppel, Mann’s efficiency—posting a 54.3% effective field goal percentage—makes him a cornerstone for Charlotte. The Hornets, operating over the cap, used their mid-level exception to secure Tre Mann, per ESPN, ensuring flexibility for further moves.

As the Charlotte Hornets gear up for 2025-26, Tre Mann’s re-signing signals ambition in the Queen City. With a favorable deal and a healthy Mann, Charlotte aims to end a nine-year playoff drought. Fans can catch Mann and the Charlotte Hornets on NBATV’s Summer League broadcast, starting July 12, as the guard looks to build on his breakout potential.
