The 0.875-mile oval in Newton, Iowa, has quickly re-established itself as one of the series’ premier venues since returning to the NASCAR schedule. Tire wear, multiple racing grooves, long green-flag runs, and late-race restarts have produced memorable finishes, and another hard-fought battle is expected over 250 laps.
With only 11 races remaining before the playoffs begin, every point is becoming increasingly valuable. While several drivers are already locked into championship contention through victories, others find themselves fighting to stay above the cut line as the postseason picture tightens.
Any modern short tracks, Iowa Speedway rewards patience as much as outright speed.
Designed with input from NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace, Iowa combines the characteristics of Richmond Raceway with higher banking and progressive grooves that allow drivers to search for grip throughout a run.
Pit strategy is also expected to play a major role. With cautions often falling at unpredictable times, crew chiefs will have difficult decisions regarding fresh tires versus track position.

JR Motorsports veteran Justin Allgaier enters Iowa still leading the championship standings, but the margin has tightened considerably during the summer stretch. Every stage point could prove critical as the regular season winds toward its conclusion.
Behind him, the battle for playoff positioning continues to grow more competitive. Drivers such as Carson Kvapil, Jesse Love and several others continue searching for momentum heading into the final third of the season.
A victory at Iowa would not only provide valuable playoff points but could completely reshape the championship outlook entering the late-summer schedule.
Can Anyone Stop Sam Mayer?
One storyline towers above the rest.
Sam Mayer returns to Iowa as the defending race winner and remarkably, a two-time defending winner at the track after sweeping the past two events. His ability to conserve tires while maintaining long-run speed has made him the benchmark at Iowa Speedway.
If Mayer qualifies near the front once again, he’ll likely be one of the favorites to beat.
Drivers to Watch
Justin Allgaier
The championship leader has consistently been among the fastest drivers on short tracks throughout his career. JR Motorsports has traditionally unloaded with excellent speed at Iowa, making Allgaier an obvious contender.
Carson Kvapil
Fresh off a victory at Indianapolis, Kvapil arrives with tremendous momentum. The rookie has impressed throughout the season on shorter tracks and finished inside the top ten during his Iowa debut last year.
Jesse Love
Love continues to show race-winning pace nearly every weekend. If his Richard Childress Racing team can maximize tire life during long runs, Iowa could present another opportunity to visit Victory Lane.
Sammy Smith
Returning to his home state, Smith has consistently been strong on short tracks and owns previous top-five speed at Iowa. Racing in front of family and friends could provide additional motivation.
New Faces in the Field
Saturday’s event also features a few notable additions to the entry list.
Carson Brown is scheduled to make his series debut with Jordan Anderson Racing after an impressive season in ARCA competition, while Derek Lemke makes his series debut for DGM Racing in front of what should be a supportive Midwestern crowd. The race features a 37-car field.
What to Expect
The opening stage will likely focus on track position as teams learn how their cars evolve over a long run.
As rubber builds on the racing surface, expect multiple grooves to emerge, allowing drivers to attack both the bottom and the outside lane. Late race restarts have frequently determined Iowa winners, meaning whoever controls the final restart could have the advantage but only if they have enough tire left to defend it.
