My World Cup Quarterfinal Power Rankings

The World Cup is down to eight teams, and the star power left in the tournament is ridiculous. Here are my rankings for the eight remaining teams.

1. France
France still looks like the team to beat. Kylian Mbappé has seven goals, Michael Olise leads the tournament with five assists, and Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola give this attack scary depth. No team has more ways to hurt you.

2. Spain
Spain is balanced, technical and dangerous. Lamine Yamal gives them magic, Rodri controls the game, Pedri sets the tempo and Mikel Oyarzabal has quietly become their top scorer. They may not be the loudest team left, but they are one of the most complete.

3. England
England’s attack is rolling behind Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon. Declan Rice gives them control in midfield, and if this group stays composed, their ceiling is winning it all.

4. Argentina
Argentina is still alive because Lionel Messi is still Lionel Messi. He leads the tournament with eight goals, while Lautaro Martínez and Enzo Fernández give the defending champions enough support to keep chasing another title.

5. Morocco
Morocco is no fluke. Brahim Díaz has been one of the tournament’s best creators, Achraf Hakimi remains one of the best defenders in the world, and Ismael Saibari has added real attacking production. This team is dangerous, organized and confident.

6. Norway
Norway has the tournament’s most terrifying finisher in Erling Haaland, who has seven goals in just four games. Add Martin Ødegaard’s creativity, and Norway has enough firepower to beat anybody left.

7. Belgium
Belgium is still hanging around with Leandro Trossard, Youri Tielemans, Jeremy Doku and the old guard of Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne. They may not look as fresh as others, but the experience is still real.

8. Switzerland
Switzerland is the clear underdog, but not an easy out. Johan Manzambi, Breel Embolo and Manuel Akanji give them enough quality to frustrate teams and make one more upset possible.

The quarterfinals have delivered exactly what fans wanted: France versus Morocco rematch from 2022 semi-final, Spain against Belgium’s golden generation remnants, Haaland versus Kane in a battle of elite strikers, and Messi one step closer to another World Cup semifinal.

Every matchup features world-class talent, every game feels worthy of a final, and one bad 90 minutes can end a nation’s dream. The World Cup has reached the stage where legends are made, and the next few days could define the careers of some of football’s biggest stars.
