Lane Kiffin Sets A SEC Media Day Record

Lane Kiffin made SEC Media Days history this week, though not for anything that happened on the football field.

The LSU head coach delivered a staggering 2,807-word opening statement, setting the record for the longest by a coach at SEC Media Days.

The previous record on the opposite end still belongs to the late Mike Leach, who famously needed just five words to open his 2022 media session.

The contrast perfectly captures the personalities of two of college football’s most entertaining coaches. Leach’s brief introduction became an instant classic, while Kiffin’s marathon opening showcased the coach’s willingness to tackle nearly every topic before reporters could even ask a question.

One thing is certain: whether it’s five words or nearly 3,000, SEC Media Days never seems to lack memorable moments.
