Noah Gragson has shown flashes of potential in the NASCAR Cup Series, but a return to the Xfinity Series with JR Motorsports may be the best move for his future.
Gragson performed respectably during his lone full season with Stewart-Haas Racing before the organization shut its doors, but instability, changing teams and inconsistent equipment have made it difficult for him to fully establish himself at the Cup level. Now at Front Row Motorsports, the results still have not consistently matched expectations.
A reunion with JR Motorsports and the iconic No. 9 car could help Gragson rediscover the swagger and confidence that once made him one of NASCAR’s biggest rising stars. Pairing him again with familiar Bass Pro Shops sponsorship would also feel like a natural fit as he attempts to reset his career trajectory.
The Xfinity Series has proven to be a place where talented veterans can rebuild momentum and dominate, much like Justin Allgaier continues to do at O’Reilly Auto Parts Raceway Park and beyond. For Gragson, stepping back down for a season or two may not be a setback at all. It could be the path toward earning a stronger Cup opportunity in the future.
Cup racing simply has not clicked for Gragson lately, and much of that has been outside of his control. Sometimes the smartest career move is taking a step back before taking the next big leap forward.
