ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Cleetus McFarland is set to make his debut in the O’Reilly Auto Parts–backed series this weekend at Rockingham Speedway, adding another chapter to his transition from digital creator to competitive racer.
McFarland, whose real name is Garrett Mitchell, is no stranger to stock cars. He has already made starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, gaining valuable experience against established competition. That background provides a foundation as he steps into a new level of racing, where expectations and competition continue to rise.
His entry into the O’Reilly series reflects a growing presence in organized motorsports, as he continues to expand beyond exhibition-style events and into structured, points-paying competition. The move also highlights NASCAR’s evolving landscape, where drivers from non-traditional backgrounds are finding opportunities to compete.
Rockingham Speedway presents a significant test. Known for its worn surface and high tire falloff, the track places a premium on long-run speed and discipline. Managing equipment over the course of a race — particularly tire wear — will be critical for a driver still building experience at this level.
For McFarland, the objective is clear: continue learning, minimize mistakes, and complete a full race against seasoned competitors. While immediate results may not define the weekend, adaptability and progression will.
Having already taken steps into NASCAR through the Truck Series, this debut is less about introduction and more about progression. Each start adds to his experience base, helping bridge the gap between grassroots racing and higher-tier competition.
As the weekend unfolds, McFarland’s performance will be measured not just by finishing position, but by how effectively he handles the demands of a challenging track and a competitive field — key indicators of his long-term potential in the sport.
