The Raiders are cooking in free agency — and the NFL is starting to notice

The Las Vegas Raiders didn’t just dip their toes into free agency — they cannonballed into it. In the span of just a few hours, Las Vegas made multiple aggressive moves to reshape its roster, locking up key players and adding major defensive talent as the franchise begins a new era.

After a disappointing season, the Raiders front office clearly decided one thing: they were going to be aggressive.

The biggest splash: Tyler Linderbaum

The headline move came when the Raiders agreed to a three-year, $81 million deal with star center Tyler Linderbaum, one of the best interior offensive linemen in football. Tyler Linderbaum

The contract instantly strengthens the heart of Las Vegas’ offensive line and gives the offense a proven anchor in the middle. Linderbaum has built a reputation as one of the league’s most technically sound centers, excelling in both pass protection and run blocking.

For a team trying to rebuild its offense, this is exactly the kind of move that stabilizes an entire unit.

Locking down their top corner

Las Vegas didn’t stop there. The Raiders also re-signed cornerback Eric Stokes to a three-year, $30 million contract, ensuring one of their most reliable defenders stays in town. Eric Stokes

Stokes started every game for the Raiders last season and emerged as one of the team’s most consistent defensive players, helping limit opposing quarterbacks to a 54.5% completion rate and an 85.3 passer rating when targeting his coverage.

For a secondary that needed stability, keeping Stokes was a priority — and the Raiders made sure he never hit the open market.

Adding a proven playmaker in the secondary

The Raiders also swung a trade to bring in veteran defensive back Taron Johnson from the Buffalo Bills. Taron Johnson

Las Vegas acquired Johnson in a draft-pick swap, sending a sixth-round pick to Buffalo while also receiving a seventh-round pick back in the deal.

Johnson has been one of the NFL’s best slot corners for years and has racked up 572 tackles, six interceptions, eight forced fumbles, and 48 pass breakups during his career.

Adding him instantly upgrades a Raiders secondary that struggled at times last season.

A new era in Las Vegas

These moves come at a pivotal moment for the Raiders organization. The team is undergoing a major roster transformation and entered the offseason with significant salary-cap flexibility to reshape the roster.

Instead of playing it safe, Las Vegas appears determined to rebuild aggressively and quickly.

Signing a Pro Bowl-level center, retaining a key cornerback, and trading for a proven defensive back all in the same day sends a message to the rest of the league:

The Raiders are not waiting around.

The takeaway

Free agency is just beginning, but Las Vegas already looks like one of the early winners of the offseason.

The Raiders strengthened the offensive line, secured their best young cornerback, and added a proven playmaker to the secondary — all in one day.

If this is how they’re starting free agency, the rest of the NFL might want to keep an eye on what the Raiders do next.
