NFL Superstar’s Need for Speed Leads to Ninth Ticket

For most players, headlines usually revolve around big plays, sacks, and awards. But for Myles Garrett, the latest headline involves something far less glamorous — another speeding ticket.

The star pass rusher for the Cleveland Browns was recently cited for speeding in Northeast Ohio, marking his ninth speeding ticket since entering the NFL in 2017. The latest incident occurred on February 21, when authorities reportedly clocked Garrett driving 94 miles per hour in a 70-mph zone on Interstate 71 in Wayne County, Ohio.

Garrett was pulled over around 1:35 a.m., and according to the police report, he was described as “kind and cooperative” during the traffic stop. The citation carries a relatively small fine — roughly $155 — and he can avoid appearing in court by simply paying it.

Still, the ticket continues a pattern that has followed Garrett throughout his NFL career.

A Long History of Speeding Incidents

Since being drafted No. 1 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, Garrett has been cited for speeding nine separate times, with several of those incidents involving extremely high speeds.

One of the most serious moments came in September 2022, when Garrett was involved in a frightening single-car crash. His Porsche flipped multiple times after he lost control of the vehicle while traveling at what police called an unsafe speed, leaving both Garrett and a passenger injured.

That accident was widely expected to serve as a wake-up call. Garrett himself said afterward that the incident would make him “be smart overall with driving.”

However, the citations have continued.

In August 2025, Garrett was ticketed again after allegedly driving 100 mph in a 60-mph zone, and the February 2026 stop now adds another entry to the list.

Dominant on the Field, Troubling Off It

The off-field issues contrast sharply with Garrett’s dominance between the lines.

The Browns’ superstar defensive end is widely considered one of the most dominant defenders of his era. In 2025, he produced a historic season with 23 sacks, setting a single-season NFL record and earning Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Garrett has already accumulated more than 125 career sacks, putting him among the league’s all-time pass-rushing leaders and firmly on a future Hall of Fame trajectory.

That elite production is part of the reason the Browns signed him to a four-year, $160 million contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in the NFL.

Browns Hoping the Pattern Ends

While the tickets themselves may not carry major legal consequences, the repeated incidents have raised concerns about Garrett’s driving habits and personal safety.

The Browns organization has previously addressed the issue internally, urging their defensive leader to be more responsible off the field. And with Garrett entering another season as the centerpiece of Cleveland’s defense, the franchise hopes the conversation can shift back to football.

Because when Garrett is on the field, there’s no debate.

He’s one of the most unstoppable defenders in the NFL.

But off the field, his need for speed keeps putting him back in the headlines.
