NASCAR WHELEN Modified Tour Hits Martinsville Saturday Night

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — One of NASCAR’s most historic divisions gets its turn under the lights this weekend at Martinsville Speedway — just a night later than expected.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers 200, originally scheduled for Friday night, has been pushed to Saturday evening due to inclement weather. The 200-lap showdown will now take place following the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race, setting the stage for a packed crowd at the famed half-mile “Paperclip.”

And if there’s one thing Modifieds do well at Martinsville, it’s put on a show.

Saturday’s race marks the second event of the 2026 season and the 41st visit for the series to the historic Virginia short track — a place where beating and banging is expected, tempers flare and the coveted grandfather clock trophy is earned the hard way.

All eyes will be on Justin Bonsignore, who enters the weekend as the driver to beat.

The four-time series champion has won the last two Modified Tour races at Martinsville and already opened the 2026 season with a victory at New Smyrna. Another win Saturday would make him the first driver in series history to win three consecutive Modified Tour races at the track — a milestone that would further cement his dominance at the “Paperclip.”

But he won’t have it easy.

Defending series champion Austin Beers brings one of the most remarkable consistency streaks in recent memory into the weekend, with 31 consecutive top-10 finishes dating back to 2024. That level of reliability makes him a constant threat, especially in a race that often comes down to survival as much as speed.

The entry list is stacked with more than 30 cars, blending veterans and newcomers alike. Ryan Newman returns to Modified competition, adding star power to the field, while young drivers like Paulie Hartwig III and Jack Baldwin make their series debuts.

Names like Ron Silk, Patrick Emerling, Craig Lutz and Jon McKennedy round out a deep lineup capable of contending on a track where experience — and patience — are everything.

Martinsville’s 0.526-mile layout is unforgiving. Tight corners, heavy braking zones and constant traffic create a rhythm that rewards discipline but punishes mistakes instantly. Passing can be difficult, contact is inevitable and track position is king.

And with the race now scheduled after a full day of on-track activity, the atmosphere should only add to the intensity.

Fans attending Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race are encouraged to stay, turning the evening into a doubleheader of short-track action — a perfect setup for one of NASCAR’s most underrated but hard-hitting series to shine.

For those watching at home, the race will be streamed live on FloRacing.

Under the lights, at one of the toughest short tracks in America, with a packed house and a hungry field — the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 200 has all the ingredients of a classic.

At Martinsville, it usually delivers.
