COLUMN: The New York Rangers Have Become a Joke

NEW YORK — The New York Rangers are a mess, and there’s no polite way to say it. Monday night’s loss in Anaheim to the Ducks — a franchise that feels more like a retirement home than a contender — was just the latest example of a team that can’t compete with anyone, anywhere.

It’s not just the losses. It’s the signals. GM Chris Drury has been penning open letters to the fans, begging them to stick around despite the chaos on the ice. That’s never a good sign. When you need love letters instead of wins to keep hope alive, your franchise is in trouble.

On the ice, the Rangers have been a disaster. Stars like Artemi Panarin and Alexis Trochuk can’t carry this team through the grind alone. Defense is porous, goaltending inconsistent, and the team has no identity beyond scoring one or two highlights a night while giving up half a dozen easy chances to the opposition. Their recent loss streak in Anaheim is symbolic of a deeper problem: this roster is cobbled together, aging in spots, and frankly uncompetitive.

It’s time to face facts. The Rangers need a total rebuild. Trade the big contracts, blow it up, and start fresh. Panarin and Trochuk, beloved as they are, would bring significant assets back in a full teardown. Sitting pat will only extend the misery.

Fans deserve more than love letters; they deserve a plan and a vision. Right now, the Rangers are a cautionary tale, a team that has underperformed for too long. Anaheim, of all places, should be a warning: this team can’t beat anyone on its current path. Rebuild or risk another decade of heartbreak.

The clock is ticking in Manhattan, and patience has run out. The Rangers need to act, and they need to act fast.
