Axsom Seizes Golden Driller as Larson’s Chili Bowl Defense Ends Early

TULSA, Okla. — At just 21 years old, Emerson Axsom etched his name into dirt racing history Saturday night, winning the Chili Bowl Nationals A-Main for the first time and hoisting the sport’s most iconic trophy, the Golden Driller, inside the SageNet Center.

Axsom’s victory came in commanding fashion in the 55-lap main event of the 40th running of the Chili Bowl, one of the toughest and deepest fields in all of motorsports. Starting second, Axsom wasted little time asserting himself, jumping out front and showing veteran-level patience on a surface that demanded precision as the night wore on.

The race’s early storyline belonged to Kyle Larson, who won the pole and entered the A-Main as a clear favorite. That narrative flipped abruptly. Larson became mired in lap traffic, made contact and flipped hard, ending his night early. He was officially scored 23rd in the 24-car field — a stunning exit for one of the sport’s most accomplished drivers.

With Larson sidelined, Axsom took control — but the job was far from easy. Logan Seavey applied consistent pressure throughout the second half of the race, while Justin Grant loomed as a constant threat as the laps clicked away.

Axsom stayed composed, protected the bottom when needed and never overdrove the car, edging Seavey at the finish to seal a career-defining win.

Winning the Chili Bowl at any age is special. Doing it at 21 years old, against a field packed with national champions, NASCAR stars and open-wheel legends, is rare air. The Chili Bowl is a week-long grind of heat races, qualifiers, alphabet soup features and relentless track evolution — and Axsom mastered it when it mattered most.

By night’s end, Axsom didn’t just survive the sport’s toughest indoor race — he conquered it. The Golden Driller now belongs to a new name, and dirt racing has its next superstar. Emerson Axsom arrived in Tulsa as a strong upset contender. He left as a Chili Bowl champion.

What a week for Emerson Axsom and what a drive. Hats off to Axsom on this career defining accomplishment known as a Chili Bowl victory.

Good stuff.
