The Athletics have secured a key piece of their future. Shortstop Jacob Wilson has agreed to a seven-year contract extension worth $70 million, according to multiple reports.
The deal includes an eighth-year club option, giving the Athletics long-term control over one of their top young players. Wilson, 23, is coming off an impressive rookie season, finishing second in American League Rookie of the Year voting after hitting .311/.355/.444.
The extension shows a clear commitment from the Athletics to build around Wilson as a franchise cornerstone, while giving the young shortstop long-term security as he continues to establish himself at the major league level.
