Breakdown: The SEC Title Contenders

1. Texas A&M Aggies (11-0, 7-0)

The Aggies so far have simply handled business, currently undefeated and a game away from locking up a spot in the SEC Championship Game. Texas A&M has been dominant on both sides of the ball, leaving no doubt about their place atop the conference. However, they’ve avoided the SEC’s heavyweights so far this season, including Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Their next opponent is a massive rivalry rematch: a road trip to Austin to take on the Longhorns with everything on the line.

2. Georgia Bulldogs (10-1, 7-1)

Georgia is close to securing yet another spot in the SEC Championship with a strong conference record, suffering just one loss–their annual defeat to Alabama. The Bulldogs continue to rely on a punishing defense and methodical offense. Before heading to Atlanta for the title game, they face an in-state battle against Georgia Tech.

3. Ole Miss Rebels (10-1, 6-1)

Lane Kiffin’s Rebels had a breakout season, matching Georgia’s overall record with an explosive offense. They are on the outside looking in for the championship game tiebreakers but stand as one of the best 10-win teams in the country. They wrap up the year in the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State. Speculation about Kiffin’s future will rage until any announcement are made.

4. Alabama Crimson Tide (9-2, 6-1)

Two losses have effectively knocked Alabama out of the playoff hunt, but Kalen DeBoer’s squad is still one of the most talented teams in the nation. Finishing the season with a 6-1 conference record is no small feat. They head to Auburn for the Iron Bowl looking to finish 10-2.

5. Oklahoma Sooners (9-2, 5-2)

Oklahoma proved its mettle this season, stacking nine wins and posting a 5-2 conference mark. The Sooners have exceeded expectations and finish their season with a home game against LSU that has been reeling since firing head coach Brian Kelly.

6. Vanderbilt Commodores (9-2, 5-2)

The biggest story of the 2025 season: Vanderbilt is 9-2! Head Coach Clark Lea and QB Diego Pavia have engineered a stunning turnaround, putting the Commodores into the conversation for a major bowl. Their final test is a rivalry road trip to Knoxville to take on the Vols.

The Middle Tier: Fighting for Bowl Seeding

7. Texas Longhorns (8-3, 5-2)

Texas had some high highs and low lows in their first SEC campaign, but an 8-win regular season is a success. A Week 14 rivalry win over the undefeated Aggies would provide massive momentum heading into the bowl season.

8. Tennessee Volunteers (8-3, 4-3)

The Volunteers had a solid year but struggled to break into the elite tier of the conference. An 8-3 record is respectable, but this will be a season of “what could have been” in Knoxville. They get a chance to knock off rival Vanderbilt at home to earn a ninth win and continue their domination over a rival.

9. Missouri Tigers (7-4, 3-4)
10. LSU Tigers (7-4, 3-4)

Mizzou and LSU have with identical records. Both teams showed flashes of brilliance but suffered key conference losses. Their final rivalry games against Arkansas and Oklahoma, respectively, are crucial for seeding in the mid-tier bowls. The difference? Missouri fans are happy given their losses to the NFL from a season ago, but 7-4 was not what LSU fans had in mind in August, which cost Brian Kelly his job.

The SEC Strugglers: Looking Ahead

The bottom six teams are a mix of teams who could clinch bowl eligibility this week with unlikely upsets over hated rivals, including:

11. Mississippi State (5-6, 1-6)

12. Kentucky (5-6, 2-6)

13. Auburn (5-6, 1-6)

and those whose seasons will end after Week 14:

14. South Carolina (4-7, 1-7)

15. Florida (3-8, 2-6)

16. Arkansas (2-9, 0-7)

The biggest disappointment is arguably Arkansas, the lone team to go winless in conference play (0-7) despite showing promise in early non-conference games.
