The strength of the SEC this season is amazing. This may be the strongest group of teams, top to bottom, in the history of the league. Ten of 16 SEC teams are still strong contenders for the CFP, and the conference schedule is going to be epic. Unlike other conferences, the SEC’s balance makes it must-watch viewing each week.

The Rankings

1) Georgia (3-0, 1-0 SEC) Coming off a bye week, Georgia holds its spot near the top with an undefeated record. Their quality win over Tennessee in Week 3 keeps them firmly at the top of the SEC.

2) LSU (4-0, 1-0 SEC) LSU continues to look like a national title contender, with an easy win over Southeastern Louisiana in Week 4. Their offense is explosive and keeps them as a CFP favorite.

3) Texas A&M (3-0, 0-0 SEC) The Aggies had a bye week, but remain a top contender. At 3-0, they are well-rested and ready to start their conference schedule at host a bruised Auburn team at Kyle Field this weekend.

4) Ole Miss (4-0, 2-0 SEC) The Rebels remain undefeated and lead the conference with a perfect 2-0 start in league play. They have a dominant offense that has been rolling over quality opponents like Tulane this past weekend.

5) Oklahoma (4-0, 1-0 SEC) The Sooners are looking strong in their first year in the SEC, with a solid home win over Auburn. This team is led by a stifling defense (10 sacks against Auburn) and new QB and Heisman front-runner John Mateen.

6) Tennessee (3-1, 0-1 SEC) The Vols bounced back from their loss to Georgia with a solid win over UAB. They have a tough conference schedule ahead, including a trip to Mississippi State this week. Josh Heupel has struggled on the road in the SEC to unranked opponents like Arkansas last week, so this game is a change to show that the Vols have matured.

7) Texas (3-1, 0-0 SEC) After a dominant 55-0 win over Sam Houston, Texas seems to have found their stride. They are now 3-1 and have a bye this week before gearing up for their first SEC conference game in the Swamp against the reeling Gators.

8) Alabama (2-1, 0-0 SEC) Alabama had a bye week but a tough loss to start the season keeps them outside of the elite SEC teams for now. The Crimson Tide still have the talent to rise quickly through the ranks. They have a tough match up at Georgia to prove all the doubters wrong.

9) Vanderbilt (4-0, 1-0 SEC) Perhaps the most surprising team of the season, the Commodores are 4-0 after a huge win over Georgia State. They get what should be an easy matchup this week hosting Utah State.

10) Missouri (4-0, 1-0 SEC) Missouri stayed perfect with a tough win at home over South Carolina. At 4-0, they are proving to be a legitimate threat in the SEC.

11) Auburn (3-1, 0-1 SEC) Auburn lost to Oklahoma, but at 3-1, and have massive concerns at OL after giving up 10 (!!!) sacks to a talented Oklahoma defense. Under pressure, Jackson Arnold looked more like his 2024 self instead of the confident QB we’d seen so far before the week.

12 Mississippi State (4-0, 0-0 SEC) The Bulldogs are undefeated at 4-0 after a big win over Northern Illinois. They have yet to play a conference game, but that changes this week as they host Tennessee. Look for a shootout.

13) Arkansas (2-2, 0-1 SEC) Arkansas is an interesting team with a talented QB in Taylen Green, but they have real challenges if they are going to qualify for a bowl game this season

14) Kentucky (2-1, 0-1 SEC) UK is just meh and should serve as cannon fodder for the rest of the SEC schedule.

15) South Carolina (2-2, 0-2 SEC) South Carolina lost again, this time on the road to Missouri team that is much better than expected. With a tough schedule remaining, the Gamecocks have to regroup against Kentucky at home this week if they have any shot at salvaging their season.

16) Florida (1-3, 0-1 SEC) What can you say about the Gators? They continue to find ways to lose and coach Billy Napier’s seat is red hot. QB DJ Lagway has completely regressed—5 INTs against LSU, just 10-17 for 57 yards against Miami. With a bye week this week, can the Gators regoup before hosting Texas?
