Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll is taking a leave of absence to deal with a personal family matter, the team announced Tuesday.

The Maple Leafs did not provide a timeline for his potential return. The season opener is Oct. 8 against Montreal.

Woll is expected to share the net this season with Anthony Stolarz. Dennis Hildeby also is on the depth chart.

Woll, 27, is entering the first season of a three-year, $11 million contract.

He was 27-14-1 with a 2.73 goals-against average and .909 save percentage while appearing in a career-high 42 games (41 starts) last season.

Woll is 48-27-2 with a 2.74 GAA with two shutouts and a .910 save percentage in 78 career appearances (75 starts) since being selected by the Maple Leafs in the third round of the 2016 NHL Draft.
