The 2024 Paris Olympics was more than just sports. It was a spectacle where athletes and stars turned the games into a fashion show, flaunting stylish outfits. Starting from the Seine to Versailles, Paris was the perfect stage for these looks. Let’s see seven outfits that rocked and seven that missed the mark.

Serena Williams’s Ruched Red Dress

This year, the Queen of tennis sports captured the show once again with her incredible fashion game as she did at the lawn tennis competition before her retirement in 2022. Her red body-con dress that detailed her finely sculpted silhouette got heads moving and cameras rolling as she walked the red carpet.

Simone Biles Final Act Outfit

Jack Gruber/Imagn

Simone showed up for her final act in an unforgettable outfit. Her Art-Nouveau-inspired ombre body suit changes seamlessly from dark blue to white. Draped with 5,000 crystals arranged in swirly patterns and firework-like bursts, the suit was the center of fashion attraction during her performance.

The Haitian Olympic Uniform

The stunning outfit worn by the Haitians was designed by Stella Jean and was inspired by Philippe Dodard’s painting “Passage” The Haitian attire was a blend of fashion and culture that definitely turned heads at the opening ceremony.  The men sported blue blazers paired with the passage-patterned trousers, while the women’s exceptional combination of skirts and blazers was equally striking.

CZECH Republic Ensemble

When the Czech Republic team made it to the Olympic parade, their colorful ensembles amused many. The attire , designed by Jan Cerny is a draping coat with a leaked ink pattern that was intended to blend and portray the culture of the Czechs and the French.

The Chinese Taipei

Taiwan athletes brought with them a signatory steel blue suit that was simply breathtaking. The details of their suits were in layers; the gorgeous flower pieces and the art on the red fabric dipped in their pockets. This ensemble easily made them the best dressed among other teams at the Olympics.

Team France Tuxedos

Kyle Terada/Imagn

France did not only hold the attention of the world with the 2024 Olympics, but their team held the fashion spotlight as well. One could not help but turn their head at the sight of the midnight-blue tuxedo jackets with a patina-effect shawl collar designed in the color of the flag worn by their male athletes.

Ghanaian Outfit

From the Motherland of Africa, the Ghanaians took the spotlight with their signatory Fugu attire. Fugu is one of the most coveted clothing in the country made from an amalgamation of strip clothes woven on a traditional loom.  Its simplicity and sophistication could not be overlooked as the team made their way during the parade.

Mongolian Attire

The Mongolian team’s attire started making waves even before their procession at the opening ceremony. True to the buzz it generated online, the outfit delivered on its promise. A stunning blend of fierce, delicate, and sleek, their ensemble featured intricate embroidery that paid homage to the country’s heritage.

Canadian Bomber Jacket

James Lang/Imagn

Now, let’s get to the fashion fails. For a night out with Justin Bieber, the outfit team Canada wore to the opening ceremony of Paris 2024 would have been dope, but for a sports event, the Lululemon outfit missed the mark by several miles. The jacquard patterns on red made the attire more suited for performance art than attire worn by athletes.

The Italian Uniform

Amber Searls/Imagn

Armani didn’t hit the mark of expectation for a country renowned for class and expressive displays of elegance. A hoodie with the colors of the Italian flag inside the hood and a bold slogan ITALIA in front is suitable for tourist visitation more than an Olympic game. We expected more.

Belgium’s Satin Cocktail Attire.

We want to believe Caroline Bliss finished watching “Three Dates to Forever” before setting out to make Belgium’s wear. A simplistic satin dress and pantsuit with bright red and yellow color will make for an exquisite dinner date or a gala but not for the most talked about sporting event.

Australian’s Blazers and Short

Kyle Terada/Imagn

On another occasion, say a reunion, the Australian team’s uniform would be chic. We can’t say so for an event like Paris 2024. While the traditional look of their dark green blazer with brass button and a blazer badge on light-colored shorts and skirts is commendable, the attire missed the mark of what the Olympics truly stand for.

Bermuda’s Signatory Navy Blazers and Shorts

If Bermuda had repeated its signatory outlook, it would have been the usual with no one batting an eyelid. This year, they added printed scarves for women, and their men had matching ties and handkerchiefs, making them look more like a cabin crew team than guests of the Olympics.

Brazilian Attire

Andrew P/Imagn

Riachuelo’s ensemble for the Brazilian team felt more like an outfit for a boy’s get-together. The striped shirt and embroidered jacket with the the Brazilian flag colors on white pants made the team look more like sailors on a voyage than people competing at the Olympics.

Kazakhstan’s Short-Sleeved Blazers

Andrew P. Scott/Imagn

White shirts, trousers, or skirts with ties and navy blue short-sleeve blazers are great high school uniforms; but we are talking about the Olympics here. This outfit missed the entire point of the game and its collective heritage. The designer should be hailed for making the best Umbrella Academy uniform, not an outfit for the most anticipated Olympics
