Born on December 6, 1994, in Athens, Antetokounmpo’s upbringing was far from glamorous. His parents, immigrants from Nigeria, struggled to provide for their five sons in a country that offered limited opportunities. Despite these challenges, Giannis and his brothers often helped by selling goods on the streets.

While Giannis’ parents were athletes, he didn’t initially envision a career in basketball. In fact, soccer was his first love, a sport more commonly played in his home country. However, his exceptional height and athleticism caught the eye of a local coach, and at the age of 13, Giannis took his first serious steps toward basketball.
